ALL ABOUT PROSECCO

The Prosecco DOC production area includes two regions located in North-East Italy. Veneto Region with Treviso, Venice, Vicenza, Padua and Belluno provinces; and Friuli Venezia Giulia with Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine provinces.

Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) is the Italian acronym of Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO). DOC protects territories and agricultural products through the disciplinary guidelines which certifies the product’s origin and guarantees its quality.

The numbers of Prosecco DOC are impressive: 24.450 hectares of vineyards, 11.102 grape growers, 1.211 wine producers, 348 sparkling-wine production plants which, all together, produced 464 million bottles in 2018.

Prosecco DOC is one of the world’s most exported sparkling wines in which UK covers the 34% of total exports in 2018.

Prosecco DOC has three declinations: spumante, frizzante or still. The most popular and appreciated is Spumante which is produced in three versions, according with the residual sugar content: Brut, Extra Dry and Dry.

The consumers must keep in mind that Prosecco DOC should be served in glass bottles only, never on-tap. The bottle guarantees the product authenticity thanks to the State Mark label on the bottleneck.

If you want to know more about Prosecco, we will be holding a masterclass, “Enter the Prosecco DOC Dreamland and discover your unique flavour” presented by Anne McHale, Master of Wine and Danilo Cortellini, Head Chef of the Italian Embassy. You can book it here.
